Maya Angelou stated, “People forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people never forget how you made them feel.”
Remember this great advice when introducing yourself on your websites and class pages. If pictures are worth a thousand words, videos are worth a thousand pictures. Videos have the ability to convey emotions and feelings in a way that people not only remember, but believe to be true. Especially now, our families and students need reassurance and emotional connections.
Tips:
- Include as many staff members as you can. It shows both parents and staff that you value them all.
- Have a stable camera by putting it on a table or using a tripod.
- Use good lighting. A quick tip is facing a window or filming in natural light outside.
- Start with a hook or belief statement instead of just with your name. It grabs attention.
- Share your passion and how inspires you in your work with students.
- Keep it brief. Less than 90 seconds usually is best.
- Smile. Have fun with this and they will smile while watching as well.
We have used many different programs in the past since we’ve been making these videos every year for the last about six years. In my experience, Flipgrid has been a great tool for collecting these videos and then downloading them for later or other use, such as to include on your website. Remember to lock down the grid once all staff members have completed their video and check settings when posting publicly.
